You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your mental health services may cost.
Under federal law, health care providers must give clients who are not using insurance, or who are uninsured, an estimate of the expected charges for services — including psychotherapy. You are entitled to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency mental health services before your first session or at any time you request one.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the charge. Be sure to save a copy or photo of your estimate for your records.
